Suhr guitars are experimenting with vulcanized maple (maple baked at 700 degrees) for guitar necks. Apparently it makes for a more stable neck:

These are now known as roasted maple and several other companies are offering guitars made with wood treated this way.

Guthrie Govan's Suhr signature guitar has a roasted maple neck. Sounds great:
